about

Fibird [pronounced ff-eye-bird] is a minimalist home goods brand designed and made by Brittney Casavant (she/her) in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Treaty One Territory, the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Ininewak, and Dakota peoples, and homeland of the Métis Nation.

Fibird was founded in 2019 after the birth of her first child, and a need for a new creative outlet.

The name Fibird comes from a mash up of the words fibre + bird. Bird being Brittney’s nickname and fibre being the medium for her work (without being limited to only punchneedle pieces). Brittney often makes up new words in causal conversation, most often by accident, and so the name seemed to fit perfectly.

Brittney comes from a background in education with a focus on textile arts + design, as well as many, many years of crafting things with her hands. She has been enjoying her creative journey as a textile artist.

Fibird pieces are inspired by Brittney’s current experiences. many pieces thus far have explored motherhood, children, travel and general experimentation.

Fibird pieces are consciously made, which means that Brittney takes into account fibre content, sourcing and longevity when designing new pieces. This is a difficult and detailed area to navigate and continues to be a learning process. Fibird pieces are made in a minimalist style in hopes of being loved for many years to come.

No one takes textile art more seriously than Brittney. As you can tell, she is one with the supplies.
